The Firm

Steven Ehlbeck Architecture & Design is a full-service architecture practice based in Portland, Oregon. Rooted in decades of experience with award-winning firms in Portland and beyond, the firm is known for its sensitivity with historic and existing buildings as well as its knowledge about a variety of building types, including arts, hospitality, educational, and residential projects.

Steven Ehlbeck, AIA, LEED AP

Creative, thoughtful, and pragmatic, Steven combines experience as a designer, technical architect, and team leader to deliver projects that delight their owners. He has devoted much of his career to restoration and adaptive use projects and is experienced at seeking out and implementing sensitive design solutions that reinvigorate buildings by improving accessibility, performance and life safety without compromising the essential character of the historic structure. Steven’s design contributions and leadership have been recognized with more than 20 local, state and national design awards.

Steven received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, cum laude, from Tufts University, and his Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a registered architect in Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and Rhode Island, as well as a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), NCARB-Certified, and a LEED Accredited Professional. He was previously an adjunct faculty member at the University of Arizona, where he taught history and theory courses and design studios.  He has been an invited studio critic/lecturer at Portland State University, Roger Williams University, Drexel University, and George Fox University.
